Nirenberg Campaign Announces Large Fundraising Report

Nirenberg Outraises All 13 Democrats, Brings in $37,500 During Reporting Period

Exceeds 120 Donors in First Three Weeks

ALEXANDRIA, VA – In its first financial disclosure report, the campaign of Alexandria City Council candidate Darryl Nirenberg reported raising more than $37,500 in contributions from over 120 individuals. The reporting period covers funds raised and expended from April 1st to May 27th. The total reported by the Nirenberg campaign was raised in only three weeks, as Nirenberg filed his candidacy papers on May 6th.

Nirenberg - a Republican candidate - outraised all 13 of his Democratic competitors for the reporting period.

“I continue to be humbled and grateful for the strong early support. I would have never expected to have outraised all 13 of my Democratic opponents for the period,” said Nirenberg. “But with proposals like housing adults on school grounds; road diets; overruling the school board to eliminate school resource officers and defund the police; neglecting our storm drains; promoting density during a pandemic; continuing to raise taxes while Alexandria families and businesses struggle to get back on their feet; destroying green space; no wonder people are scratching their heads thinking ‘what can they possibly be thinking?’”

Alexandria voters will elect six at-large members to the City Council in November. The Democrats will select their six candidates in a primary on May 8. Nirenberg is the sole Republican candidate. Fundraising totals for the period, as reported by VPAP.org follow:

  1. Darryl Nirenberg (R) $42,807 (includes $5,240 candidate in-kind contributions)
